When needed, we can administer blood products, such as whole blood, fresh frozen plasma, and packed red blood cells to your pet. To ensure compatibility between donors and recipients and to reduce reactions, we perform blood typing and cross matching on any pet requiring a transfusion.
During your pet’s diagnosis blood may be obtained by one of our vets or qualified technicians to be analyzed in our in-house lab. The lab is equipped with a biochemistry machine, electrolyte machine, hematology machine and centrifuge which can carry out an array of tests. Blood biochemistry can be analyzed to check for many diseases including liver disease, kidney disease and diabetes mellitus. Blood hematology also analyses the different blood cells and the amount present within the sample giving indications of infection, anemia and dehydration.
Our dedicated hospital offers a team of highly skilled veterinarians that are trained in both emergency care and surgery. They combine their knowledge and skills to create a comprehensive plan for your pet, a plan that follows the most effective route from diagnosis to treatment. In cases of advanced illness or injury your pet will benefit from direct access to our qualified staff, each experienced in their own field. Your pet will receive expert investigation and treatment for a vast number of conditions, without having to transfer to another location.
NAEC has a large Snyder Oxygen Cage to be able administer around the clock oxygen therapy in an air tight temperature controlled environment. A desired oxygen concentration range is set by the veterinarian and maintained automatically. An oxygen enrichment is often indicated for post-op situations, shocks, head injury, neurologic disease, tissue hypoxia, respiratory illness, severe anemia, and numerous other symptoms and situations.
Our soft tissue department works closely with all the other disciplines within the NAEC to provide a multidisciplinary approach to all kinds of surgical cases, from tumor removal to traumatology management.
NAEC is also able to provide specialized services as well. We are fortunate enough to be able to collaborate with different veterinary specialists from the area and are able to offer the highest quality of care and the best options available to you. In collaboration with Veterinary Specialties Referral Center, Dr. Courtney Fitzpatrick, a board certified surgeon, works out of NAEC twice a month to be able to provide our northern clients with a close and convenient option for specialist care. Please give us a call at 518-761-2602 to learn more about our specialized services and our Dr. Fitzpatrick’s schedule.
In addition to our state of the art digital radiology equipment and ultrasound unit, NAEC is fortunate to be able to work closely with Dr. Kristina Wilson, from Upstate Veterinary Specialties. Dr. Wilson is a diplomat of the American College of Radiologists and is able to offer our patients specialized imaging procedures using radiographs and ultrasound. I can’t stress how thankful I am for how helpful the staff at NAEC was when we had resolved to putting our cat to rest. It was literally the hardest experience of my life, and the techs, vets, and desk staff helped during every step of the way to make it that much more manageable. You did our family a great service.
